Amy is a longtime, year-round resident of Martha's Vineyard. As a youngster, she developed her love for this special place while on visits to the Island's harbors and anchorages, on her family's sailboat, "Whimbrel". She graduated from Colby-Sawyer College with a BA degree in the fine arts and after starting a career in social work, came to the island to rejuvenate herself and to work at various odd jobs. A job as clerk in an antique jewelry shop led to an apprenticeship to a well-known jewelry designer. Five years later (1999) she opened her own shop on Main Street in Vineyard Haven. Her experience with the antique work gave her knowledge of traditional ways of creating jewelry, and insights into the needs of her patrons.
Amy's designs betray an excellence that only comes from long years of apprenticeship, and a sense of proportion that has become second nature. Her technical skills with gold and silver are impeccable. She finds her own shell and sea glass on daily beach walks. She does not use machine-tumbled glass or pre-assembled parts, working bezels and other elements to fit naturally occurring shapes. As a result, each of her pieces is uniquely special, and reflects the thought inherent in its creation.
Her connection to the Island and its people has instilled a unique point of view from which her creativity springs. She is particularly clever in combining the precious with the common to create jewelry that rekindles memories of special people, places, and moments.
